The Endangered Wildlife Trust

The organisers of the Bezhoek Extreme are proud to announce that the 2019 edition of the race will be in support of the critical conservation work undertaken by the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT). The EWT has worked tirelessly for over 45 years to save wildlife and habitats, with their vision being a world in which both humans and wildlife prosper in harmony with nature.

The EWT’s team of field-based specialists is spread across southern and East Africa, where committed conservation action is needed the most. Working with their partners, including businesses and governments, the EWT is at the forefront of conducting applied research, supporting community conservation and livelihoods, training and building capacity, addressing human wildlife conflict, monitoring threatened species and establishing safe spaces for wildlife range expansion.

With the Bezhoek Extreme celebrating the incredible and irreplaceable biodiversity located in the Bezhoek Nature Reserve, including impressive cycad populations, this makes the relationship with the Endangered Wildlife Trust a perfect fit.

The Bezhoek Extreme

The two Bezhoek Extreme Sport Festivals were brought to life with the sole purpose of raising funds for the ongoing conservation efforts in the Olifants River Valley. The relationship with the EWT means that specific projects have now been identified with funding and progress of the projects being monitored by the EWT.  As a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO), they are accountable for every cent spent on these projects and both private and corporate donors can rest assured that their contributions are being channeled and managed correctly.

The relationship brings a number of interesting additions to the Bezhoek Extreme MTB and Trail Festivals. Through our Commit2Conserv (C2C) initiative, the Endangered Wildlife Trust will soon launch a pledge programme where the public can pledge money against the achievements of professional and social riders participating in the Bezhoek Extreme Festivals. As an organisation, you can also become a Bezhoek Extreme partner and help us move forward in this journey to protect our world.

Our next two festivals are from 24 to 26 May 2019 (Trail Run) and 31 May to 2 June 2019 (MTB)
