Imbuko Giant Racing Team

A line-up of Giant Anthem’s on the start

With most of the big stage races being hosted in the Western Cape, it is the Valies that do most of the air travel when it comes to mountain biking and stage racing. This time around it is the Imbuko Giant boys from Wellington that will do the traveling, to show their steel at The Bezhoek Extreme on the 1st and 2nd of June.

Having started very strong with a 2nd place in the African Jersey and 11th overall in the 2019 ABSA Cape Epic, Team Imbuko Giant is clearly on a mission and they have shown that they are a force to recon with.

With Sarah Hill and Theresa Ralph already having confirmed their participation, Marco Joubert and Nicol Carstens will complete the Giant picture. The peloton of Anthems on the start line will most certainly ensure fierce competition in the leading bunch.

Imbuko Giant’s Season

We caught up with Team Manager Max Sullivan who is managing a very busy team schedule to hear what he has to say.

“We’re excited to head up country and race in an area unknown to us. It is always valuable to ride and race on a wide variety of terrains and adapting to differing terrain is an important skill. It will also be a very good stint at altitude ahead of SA Marathon champs in June. We look forward to seeing some old faces and meeting some new ones!” said Sullivan.

“Based on the feedback from last year’s event we certainly expect two hard days of racing and we won’t underestimate the course” he added.
“I am very excited to see a stronger mens field in this year’s race. Our vision is a highly sought after, world class marathon event and a benchmark for professional mountain bike racing. The presence of the Imbuko Giant Racing Team definitely turns the heat up a couple of notches” says Róan Rossouw, Race Director for The Bezhoek Extreme

What to expect

The Bezhoek Extreme takes place over two days with one of three distance options on Saturday 1 June and a challenging half marathon on Sunday 2 June. The 2018 ultra marathon distance has been labeled by many as one of the toughest ultra marathons on the calendar with the marathon and half marathon receiving similar reviews.

If you haven’t entered for The Bezhoek Extreme yet, you still have time. If you want to experience mountain biking the way it was meant to be, head over to the events section and make sure you don’t miss out.
